The Fellwalker by Peter John Farnworth

WALK 36 SUNDAY JUNE 18th 1989

Today’s walk starts where we left off on Walk 35, on the other side of the road on Honister Pass. As we prepared ourselves for the walk, from this high point we could see right down into the valley to Seathwaite. Standing here in the early morning mist, we knew we had the makings of a good day. Time now 9.15am. It does make you feel good inside when you can see the mist lifting over the lower fells.

The two boys from outer town on the summit of "ROBINSON"

We left the YHA Hostel with a spring in our step as we headed up the fell side towards the summit of Dale Head, which for me, was very dull. As we steadily climbed up we seemed to go on and on, over the rise and over the next, until we finally reached the top. This summit cairn is one of the better ones within this area of fells. When standing here, you have good views of the other side towards Little Town. From here we followed a high level path to Hindscarth summit, which also has a good cairn within a circular stone wall, which helps to keep the wind and rain at bay. From here we could see over towards Newlands. Still following the high ground we made our way to Robinson and from this point retraced our steps in very warm sunshine. This was another quiet walk, given that we saw only two fell walkers all day. Just how we like it!
